Patrick Seth Magosky was an Architectural Historian who specialized in Joliet architecture/history.

Seth was born and raised in Joliet and graduated from St. Patrick Grade School and Joliet Catholic High School. He is a fourth generation Jolietan whose great great grandfather, Marcus Kraker, who also loved architecture, commissioned F.S. Allen to design his residence at 225 Hickory Street in 1895.

Seth grew up in the home F.S. Allen built for himself when he lived in Joliet. His interest in architecture began as a young child watching his parents research the house they lived in, as well as other Joliet homes.

Seth gave his first architectural presentation at age 13 as an extra credit project at St. Patrick's grade school. After high school, Seth went on to study at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he majored in History of Architecture and Minored in European History.

Professional Background
Seth worked with the Historic American Building Survey on Joliet West side and Downtown historic surveys. He also assisted Dr. Robert Sterling by providing valuable historic information for the architectural section of his book The Pictorial History of Joliet.

Seth worked with the National Register of Historic Places, writing the architectural nomination for the Upper Bluff Historic District in Joliet. He presented slide show/lectures on Joliet's architectural history at the Joliet Public Library, Joliet Historical Society, and various clubs and organizations.

Seth was regularly featured in the Herald News in articles pertaining to local history and architecture, and he was the host of a Historic Cable television program.

He was a nationally recognized expert on the Civil War Era life and art. Seth also did personal portrayals of historical figures, including John Wilkes Booth and Marshall Field.

He was an original member of the Joliet Historic Preservation Commission and board member of the Cathedral Area Preservation Association.
